So, we were on vaca last week and missed the opportunity for a timely post regarding the whole Danica v. Duno Mid-Ohio thing. If timely posts are good, than not-timely posts must be better! Right? Enjoy the ESPNEWS clip of the confrontation (make special note of the racially insensitive impersonation at 1:27. God bless you Mike Hill).
We like how the quasi-cat fight was shown before the race highlights. Oh, and Milka Duno sounds like a retarded sheep when speaking.
ESPN has a NASCAR program entitled NASCAR Now. Largely uninspired and with way too much Rusty Wallace, NN is not exactly TiVo worthy. That is, unless, you are the kind of fellow who is interested in attractive television presenters (no, not you Ryan Burr).
Nicole Manske is the sometime-host of the program (some might recognize her from co-anchoring with Bob Varsha on The Speed Report), and has a rather interesting factoid from her past. Manske is from Roscoe, Illinois and graduated from Hononegah Community High School where she was a cheerleader with one Danica Patrick. (The other notable HCHS alum is figure staking god and icon of all things homosexual, Scott Hamilton.)
The Erin Andrews of NASCAR was also a semifinalist in the 1998 Miss Tenn USA pageant. A real jack-of-all-trades, that Manske.
If anyone wants to see an interview of Manske from inside Rick Mears' old motor coach, this video is for you.
The week that was at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway can be summed-up quickly. Really quickly. Only two words are needed: rain and wrecks.
The wet stuff killed two days of practice this week. Yes, complete washouts they were.
The break in the weather came Friday afternoon, and lasted long enough for two nasty accidents (then the rain returned). Alex Lloyd hit the wall a ton and Danica Patrick ran over a Coyne crew member on pit lane. The Patrick accident could have been much uglier. Also in the Patrick clip, note Mario Andretti in the foreground, not looking concerned. Oh, Mario.
More information is surfacing about Danica Patrick's plane ride from Japan to California following her victory at Motegi two weeks ago. The Indy Star's Curt Cavin first reported that Patrick hit the sake rather hard during the transcontinental flight. Cavin adds more to the story today, reporting that Patrick was joined on the (commercial) flight by Scott Dixon and Scott Wheldon -- and their spouses, all hoisting many a sake-bombs. This activity had to be halted by the stewardesses as too much fun was being imbibed. (Yes, like a sorority girl at TGI Friday's on her 21st, the finest in open wheel racing had to be cut-off.)
You know a motor racing story needs to have real legs to be featured on ESPN's First Take. Danica Patrick's victory at Motegi is apparently such a story, as she held court with ESPN's Dana Jacobson Monday morning:
The IndyStar'sCurt Cavin reported that Patrick got shitty on sake during the flight from Japan to Long Beach. Jacobson would surely approve of such activity as her thirst for the hooch is widely recognized as legendary.
Hey, so long as it prevents Skip Bayless from trying to speak about motor racing, Jacobson can say and drink whatever she wishes.
The IndyStar.com puts Danica Patrick's Japan victory in perspective with following headline-picture combo from a Curt Cavin article.
Danica Patrick's win 'going to be . . . remembered'
Let us play count the Asians. I got 14.
Perhaps the headline should have read, Danica Patrick's win 'going to be... remembered' by a handful of locals and two dozen sad statesiders watching an obscure cable network late at night.
